ABSTRACT
The Sociological Research Unit of the Institute of Education, University of London, is currently undertaking an inquiry into: (1) the origins of social class differences in the responsiveness of parents to education; (2) the linguistic development of children aged five years through to seven years: and (3) the influence of patterns of communication and control in the home on (1) and (2).
