ABSTRACT
Many children with disabilities and learning problems experience difficulty in acquiring number concepts and coping with the demands of calculation and problem solving. In this chapter some of the reasons for their difficulties will be discussed. Suggestions will be made for assessing students’ abilities in basic mathematical skills and teaching methods will be examined.
