ABSTRACT

Lactate parameters have been successfully used to assess and predict endurance performance (Farrell et al., 1979; Bishop et al., 1998), to prescribe specific training intensities (Londeree, 1997), and to measure adaptations to training (McLellan and Cheung, 1992). Variables that could influence the validity and reliability of a test to measure blood lactate concentration include protocol, mode of exercise, and methods of detecting a “threshold”.
