“I am what I play”: the radio DJ as cultural arbiter and negotiator

This chapter uses as its source material Steve Taylor’s experiences as one of the launch DJs at Xfm. His chapter reflects on the early days of the radio station in the late 1990s. While changes have been made to programming policy, his chapter still has much to say about what it is like to work for a music radio station committed to innovative practice in unstable and insecure times.
