ABSTRACT
Since the beginning of the twentieth century the US has been the largest automobile manufacturing country. Japan’s car makers set out to adopt the American mass production system when they began to produce automobiles before the war. To establish mass production systems, they had to introduce advanced technology from the US and also had to invest heavily in order to modernize their production facilities. Americanization, which almost equalled mass production for Japan’s car makers, was their target once they launched automobile production in the 1930s and subsequently when they restarted automobile production after the Second World War.
