ABSTRACT
The priest’s friends returned to the aftermath of this grisly encounter, and resolved to dig up the “cursed corpse” at daybreak. When they set about this task, they discovered that the earth enclosing the body was stained with “many traces of blood, which had flowed from the wound inflicted on the creature”. They removed the cadaver and carried it outside the abbey grounds, where it was burnt and scattered to the wind.1
