ABSTRACT
Three urban and political processes come together in Barcelona: the
democratization of municipal government, the physical transformation of
the city, and the formulation of a city project that meets with the broad
approval of civil society. In this chapter I shall analyse these processes from
three standpoints: first, local government initiatives: second, the links
between public authorities and the private sector: and third, the challenges
to future governability.
