Prospects for equitable social provision in a globalising world*

There are three themes in this chapter. One concerns the place of universal social provisioning in the global discourse concerning desirable national social policy. A second concerns the response of southern governments to a northern imposed social policy agenda. The third concerns the prospects for the development of a social dimension to southern regionalism. Linked together, the themes and the analysis associated will enable an assessment to be made of the prospects for equitable social provision in a globalising world.
