ABSTRACT

Crop losses caused by widespread occurrence of cardamom mosaic virus (car-MV-Katte) is a major production constraint for cardamom in India. Occurrence of cardamom necrosis virus (car-NV-Nilgiri necrosis virus) and cardamom vein clearing disease (carVCV-Kokke kandu) in some endemic zones are also matters of concern to the cardamom industry. Diseases of cardamom were earlier reviewed by Chattopadhyay (1967), Agnihothrudu (1987), Naidu and Thomas (1994) and Venugopal (1995). Based on severity of occurrence and crop losses, four serious viral diseases of cardamom and their integrated management are discussed in this chapter.
