ABSTRACT

Most of the planned learning and teaching which you do with your pupils will be done inside the school building. However, many teachers want to make links with children’s everyday experience and many plan visits into the community. This may be to the seaside, the local supermarket, the brickworks or to a local park. As well as this type of educational visit, teachers plan to take their pupils to field centres where they usually study various habitats. Often these are habitats which cannot be found near the school. The field centres have the added advantage of providing trained countryside rangers or other experts and offer workshops and supplementary materials for both children and teachers.
