Module 16. Evaluating classroom practice and providing effective feedback to teachers

There are many aspects to monitoring and evaluating provision in science. High on the national agenda is the issue of standards. How well does the school compare with schools nationally and with similar schools? (Similar schools in the case of England being those with a similar proportion of pupils entitled to free school meals.) National data is available to schools in the form of the school PANDA (Performance and Assessment) which gives comparisons with schools nationally and with similar schools. The ‘Autumn Package’ also contains helpful statistics and guidance so that schools can plot value-added information as well as absolute statistics.
