ABSTRACT

This book is a companion to the workshop materials entitled Making Progress in Primary Science, 2nd edition, a set of sixteen modules designed for use in initial training and professional development workshops, each dealing with a general aspect of teaching science in the primary school. These modules both advocate and exemplify active learning through engagement with ideas, materials and emerging educational issues. The workshop material contains activities for teachers which are intended for discussion in groups so that activity can be accompanied by reflection and analysis with others. This book has been written to enable those who study alone to share in the reflection and analysis by including all the activities and providing discussion of them and feedback that gives access to others’ ideas. It will also be helpful to those who attend a course and wish to revisit material covered or to go beyond it to study other modules not included on the course.
