ABSTRACT

The literature and the childbearing situations which have been examined thus far suggest that there may be some discrepancy, or at least variation, between the rhetoric and the reality of men’s contribution to childbearing. The significance of the man’s input into one particular aspect of the woman’s experience of childbearing is demonstrated by research which has been undertaken in the areas which feature some form of childbearing loss. This research shows the extent to which the man who is the woman’s partner may or may not be involved in and affected by the unhappy childbearing event. The research also addresses whether and to what extent he may show any reaction.
