ABSTRACT
Consistent with the discussion in Chapter 1, environmental resources, in broad terms, include all the living and non-living endowments of the Earth, and for that matter, the entirety of the biosphere. The primary objective of this chapter is to establish a clear understanding of the basic principles governing the nature, structure and function of the biosphere (hence, environmental resources) and the functional linkages (relationships) between the biosphere and the human economy.
