ABSTRACT

In the introduction to this book, we mentioned some of the questions that come to people’s minds when they read a newspaper description of a sordid sexual assault: Was this offender crazy or sexually obsessed? What was the purpose of such outrageous acts? In Part I of this book, we attempted to answer these questions, through a review of relevant theoretical models and empirical studies. In Parts II and III, we presented new empirical studies, based on a large sample of sexual aggressors incarcerated in Canada. In addition, in Part IV, we presented new empirical studies based on samples from Her Majesty’s Prisons in England and Wales, as well as the most recent development of the Self-Regulation Model (SRM), and the model’s clinical implications for the assessment and treatment of sexual aggressors.
