ABSTRACT

The previous two chapters have argued that the term ‘sustainability’ is now an essential item in the vocabulary of modern political discourse. It is an ideological term. It can be used, and is used, by many if not most businesses, all the mainstream political parties, and those outside the mainstream, to illustrate and describe policies, the implications of which can be shown to be anything but sustainable in a number of ways. And it is widely used in a meaningless and anodyne way.
