ABSTRACT

At first glance the place of museums, zoos, gardens and art galleries might seem to be unlikely subjects for a book of this kind. However, because they can be closely connected with science education, they will also have close links with appropriate ICT. Although a school will have many different reasons to pay a visit to one of these places, the one that should concern us is a visit as part of a science project. Whilst zoos and gardens may not be so readily accessible, most schools will have access to at least a local museum and art gallery. Consequently, we will refer mainly to these in this chapter, although much of what is written could easily be applied to zoos and gardens as well.
