When ethnic majorities are ‘dethroned’: towards a methodology of self-reflexive, controlled macrocomparison

In this chapter I consider anthropology’s present potential for comparison.1 I believe the current phase of globalization requires such an exploration, ascontinually and, it would seem, permanently-globalization brings together local conditions from vastly different areas, conditions that appear, at first sight, to have little in common.
