ABSTRACT

In Dorian myth the king of Doris who called for the help of Heracles to drive out the Lapiths from his territory. When Heracles had done this, he refused to accept an immediate reward, but asked that his descendants might claim asylum in the land. Later the Heraclids, from whom the Dorian kings subsequently claimed descent, were believed to have settled in Doris. Aegimius’ sons Dymas and Pamphylus, together with Heracles’ son Hyllus, gave their names to the three Dorian tribes.
