ABSTRACT

The eldest daughter of King Priam of Troy and Hecabe. She married Polymestor, king of Thrace, and brought up her youngest brother Polydorus, who was entrusted to her during the siege of Troy. According to one version, when Polymestor, for greed, or to gratify the Greeks, plotted to kill her brother, she saved his life by substituting her own son by Polymestor, Deipylus, whom his father then killed by mistake. Later she revealed the plot to Polydorus, who slew Polymestor with her help. When Aeneas passed through Thrace, Ilione presented him with her sceptre, which he later gave to Dido.
