ABSTRACT
Daughter of Oedipus and his mother Jocasta, and the sister of Antigone. As a character in tragedy she is a companion and foil for Antigone, helping her when the blind Oedipus was a fugitive in Attica and refusing aid when Antigone wished to bury their dead brother Polynices; though Ismene later volunteered to die with her.
