ABSTRACT

Daughter of Epaphus and Memphis. To Poseidon she bore Belus and Agenor, who were twins, and Lelex. Libya, a Greek name applied to large areas of Africa, was called after her.

Heracles’ herald, whom he sent to fetch a clean tunic from Deianira when he wished to sacrifice at Cape Cenaeum in Euboea. Deianira gave Lichas the tunic dipped in the fatal blood of Nessus and Lichas conveyed it to Heracles. When the poison ate into him, Heracles flung Lichas out to sea, where he was transformed into a rock.
