ABSTRACT

Son of Panthous, a Dardanian. In the Trojan War, Euphorbus attacked Patroclus with his spear and hit him midway between the shoulder blades. Patroclus, by Apollo’s agency, was stunned, but Euphorbus did not wait to fight him. When shortly afterwards Hector brought Patroclus down, Euphorbus wished to strip the corpse, but Menelaus spotted him. He warned Menelaus not to interfere and cast a spear at him, but in vain. Menelaus then pierced Euphorbus’ throat with his spear and laid him low.
