ABSTRACT

Monsieur Chateauneuf and I lunched very well and proceeded to visit the Prince’s quarters. It had been added onto several times, partly under François Ier, partly even earlier by his predecessors. Towards the front was the main building that his father had begun. The three halls in it present, thank God, no symmetry whatsoever and have no bearing or relation to one another. The architect avoided this as much as he could. What François Ier ordered done, judging from the outside, I found most appealing of all. There are many small galleries, small windows, small balconies, small ornaments, without regularity and without order. This makes for something great that is quite delightful.
