ABSTRACT

I propose in the present Volume to provide a Theory of the Cutting of Solid Objects as shall be necessary for the demonstration of the use that may be made thereof in Architecture for the construction of vaults and the working of stone and wood, which no person has hitherto done and because I adopt an approach to this different from those who have discussed this subject, who have restricted themselves so much to Practice that they seem to have little regard for Theory, or to be ignorant of it. I shall attempt to demonstrate its usefulness.
