ABSTRACT
Grotowski’s actual writings are few. The one book printed under his name, Towards a Poor Theatre, is primarily a collection of interviews, production and workshop notes, and commentaries by Ludwik Flaszen and Eugenio Barba. It includes only five pieces written by Grotowski himself out of fifteen articles in the book. He disliked putting his thoughts on paper, knowing that once something was in print, it was in danger of becoming a recipe or formula. Language, for him, was alive, always changing, and should never become petrified.
