ABSTRACT

There are many children who are not looked after children but who are cared for by relatives or friends of their parents (kinship carers), and some children who do become looked after have relatives or friends who put themselves forward to care for them. Most local authority adoption, fostering and permanent placement teams will be supporting some carers who are relatives or friends of the child for whom they are caring. Some of the support work with relative and friend carers will be provided by social workers in child protection and children in need teams.
