ABSTRACT

This chapter introduces you to the building blocks for practice which social workers need in order to work with socially excluded individuals, groups and neighbourhoods. The building blocks are generic: that is, they apply across all the various kinds of social work. Some may be familiar to you, others will be new and require you to think creatively about your role and responsibilities; still others have emerged from recent initiatives by government and non-governmental bodies, and from research about how the process of social exclusion works.
