ABSTRACT

In the preceding chapters we have discussed the many approaches that you and your colleagues can deploy to reduce the exclusion experienced by users and local areas you work with. You individualy can engage in much valuable work at precisely this level and in the process educate your agency in the means and strategies for tackling social exclusion across a range of fronts. But to make a sustainable contribution in promoting inclusion your agency – whether a large national voluntary organisation, a local authority social service department, small local advice centre or faith-based mission – has to be closely involved in this work. This chapter explains the changes to culture and approaches to practice that agencies have to undertake to engage effectively in a joined-up, local attack on exclusionary barriers for users and citizens alike.
