The Native Indian story is not unique. Many indigenous peoples suffered a similar fate, and only their courage, determination and resilience have prevented the complete annihilation of their culture and traditions. Although nothing can compensate for the atrocities of the past, such groups are now accorded more political support and there is more recognition of the plight of indigenous peoples.
