ABSTRACT

The early chapters described some of the books pre-school children enjoy. These included the playful books in plastic, cloth and board that children first encounter. Case studies were included to bring a personal and human dimension and showed that it is never too early for children to have preferences. The early alphabet, number and concept books that start to be enjoyed after about age two were discussed in some detail with suggested criteria to help choose them. These books can provide a link between home and school because children will often find them in nursery school and reception class collections.
