Medicine, education and gender from c. 1902 to 1944 with a case study of Birmingham

Both the continuing inequalities and the expanding opportunities for women in science from the late nineteenth century to the mid-twentieth in England can be illustrated by the history of medicine. This history will be explored here, followed by a deeper exploration of one city, Birmingham, to exemplify the complexities of the interrelated developments in science, medicine, education and gender.
