ABSTRACT

Something of the war-time effort of the technical colleges was told in my previous volume. 100 In June 1946 the Ministry of Education, in A.M. 165 (17th June 1946), published figures showing that during the war 288,992 persons (241,334 men and 47,658 women) received special courses of training in technical colleges and other establishments of further education. ‘The work’, added the Ministry, ‘was done under adverse conditions, and the excellent results obtained would have been impossible without the eager co-operation and unflagging effort of local education authorities, governing bodies, principals and staffs.’
