ABSTRACT

Chapter 5 considers housing strategies and looks at the changing nature of such strategies and their current role and function in a rapidly changing environment. It focuses on government requirements in developing and delivering comprehensive housing strategies and offers a general overview of their increasing importance in terms of delivering far more than just housing. It looks at some key issues involved in developing housing strategies before considering establishing housing strategies to tackle houses in multiple occupation and making best use of the private rented sector. It provides an overview of urban regeneration-the reasons for decline and how successful strategies need to act upon these, before looking at sources of funding for regeneration projects. It concludes with a summary of current concepts in regeneration-community empowerment, partnership working and social exclusion as key features to be addressed in evolving housing strategies.
