ABSTRACT

Not all interventions will embark on longer-term outcome evaluation. Impacts and effects upon inequalities in health are likely to be gradual and probably will take time beyond that of the intervention. Immediate and intermediate outcomes by contrast allow effects to be demonstrated within a shorter timescale. Above are examples of:

• immediate impacts/effects (may be assessed as early as 6-9 months into the programme or intervention);

• intermediate impacts/effects which strive to strengthen individuals/communities and strengthen alliances ( these can be assessed from 1 year into the programme or intervention).
