The dictates of ethnicity

Singapore is a multi-ethnic state, with 77 percent Chinese, 14 percent Malays, 7.7 percent Indians, and 1.3 percent Eurasians and Others, as noted in Chapter 2. Permanent residents and foreigners comprise 24 percent of the total population – a 10 percent increase in a decade. There is considerable heterogeneity within each community, adding to the overall diversity.
