ABSTRACT

Neoconservatives gloat that we are all capitalists now and State Department pundits tout the triumph of capitalism as the end of history. But is capitalism really the master of us all or can desire be freed from its servitude to the capitalist market? Over the course of the past several decades, Latin American liberationists have emerged among the most prominent and compelling voices to defy the capitalist orthodoxy. Contending that the God of Jesus Christ is actively involved in history struggling against the capitalist order that consigns much of the world’s population to misery and premature death, liberationists have boldly sought to quicken Christian resistance to the capitalist order.
