ABSTRACT

Finding ways to develop the curriculum represents a contribution that teachers at all levels can make to their school. Creating a new resource or writing a unit of work on study skills for PSHE: such ideas can make a difference to the educational experience. However, it is important to do this in the context of an overall strategy, perhaps including the following elements:

• establish the baseline data (i.e. the level students are working at)

• decide how you will measure progress (i.e. how you will know whether your innovation has made a difference)

• decide how you will share the process, the resources and the outcomes of your work

• decide how you will engage the support of others in the organisation to develop your work to best effect

These are challenging questions but attention to them will enable a project to be evaluated thoroughly and provide you with the means to describe your work to a wider audience.
