ABSTRACT

IT I S I N A D V I S A B L E T O grant the narrative genre an absolute privilegeover other genres of discourse in the analysis of human, and specifically linguistic (ideological), phenomena, particularly when the approach is philosophical. Some of my earlier reflections may have succumbed to this “transcendental appearance” (“Presentations”, Instructions païennes, even The Postmodern Condition). On the other hand, an examination of “histories” might help us to address one of the great questions presented by the historical world at the end of the 20th century (or beginning of the 21st century). For if we claim that this world is historical, we necessarily intend to treat it narratively.
