ABSTRACT

This chapter looks at two central aspects of learning to teach modern foreign languages (mfl): lesson observation and collaboration with experienced teachers as well as planning and evaluation.

Lesson observation and collaboration with experienced teachers provide unique opportunities to gain valuable insights into the teaching process as a basis for learning about teaching. They are essential parts of the learning process for mfl trainees. Our first concern in this chapter is with demonstrating how observation and collaboration can be used to help the mfl trainee develop a personal teaching style.
