The Hundred Days and Waterloo, 1815

Reaching Elba (3 May 1814), Napoleon assumed rule of an “empire” of 86 square miles. The population of 12,000 Italian–speaking inhabitants was initially hostile, since he had kept Elba under military government since 1802.
