ABSTRACT

Students were asked to think of a relationship that is causing them stress. They were then asked to think of what would improve things. It is quite common for us to think of things the other person could do that would improve things. However, by doing this we are denying ourselves any control over the situation. After all you can’t change other people, you can only change the way in which you relate to them. Often when you do this, the other person will change, but not always in the way that you want. At the end of the day, to make the most of our relationships we need to take responsibility for our part in the relationships that cause us stress.
