ABSTRACT

In the previous chapter I argued that aesthetic order consists of interpretative relations. However, there is a need for a more detailed characterization of these relations and the kind of interpretation involved. The second part of this qualitative analysis is, therefore, concerned with a general typology of interpretation and the specific type that is typical of aesthetic order-complementary interpretation. The qualitative analysis concludes with an examination of problems inherent in evaluating interpretations and their relevance to aesthetic evaluation in generalart and non-art.
