ABSTRACT

In this chapter, we look at the terms that govern this book: drama, theatre, performance, together with some associated ones: score, script and text. The list is not exhaustive; we by no means aim to provide an authoritative map; nor do we provide definitions. Rather, we are concerned to explore some of the ways in which these various words have been deployed and mapped together, to what effect and in what circumstances in recent decades. The chapter falls into three sections.
