ABSTRACT
The length of stay of the patients in hospital is shown in Table 4.2. It will be seen that most of the deaths occurred soon after admission; 63% within the first three weeks and that more patients died in the first week than in any subsequent week. 53% of the discharges occurred within three weeks. Only 5.6% died or were discharged after a hospital stay of eight weeks or longer.
