ABSTRACT
The syllabus is given in Appendix 1 in which completed studies of nursing research were analysed and particular attention paid to the method used.The list of studies initially used is given in Appendix 2.These were followed by discussions with research workers who had recently completed nursing studies. Each study was analysed using a modified form of the headings used by Dr. J. MacGuire in analysing the studies in ‘Threshold to Nursing’.These exercises developed a skill in the critical evaluation of research studies which was later applied to the design of the work undertaken by the research assistants themselves.The list of analytical headings is given in Appendix 3.
