ABSTRACT
This chapter highlights tensions in the field of distance training. There are tensions between group-based systems and individual-based systems. There are tensions between the technologies of the Industrial Revolution and the technologies of the Electronics Revolution. There are tensions between those who promote the WWW as the killerapplication for distance training, and those who see value in other technologies for learning at a distance. There are tensions between wired, cabled and fixed technologies, and mobile technologies.
