ABSTRACT
Waddell, Tom (1937-87), American athlete. Born Tom Fluabacher in New Jersey, he took on the surname of his adoptive parents after his natural parents’ divorce. Trained as a medical doctor, specialising in infectious diseases, he was drafted into the army during the Vietnam War, which he publicly criticised. After being demobbed, he moved to San Francisco.
