ABSTRACT

“Coded spaces” 1 are transforming the nature of social space 2 and, as a result, the space within which “class, culture and identities play out.” 3 I have argued elsewhere that locative media represent not a primarily geographical mediation of the city but rather a geodemographical mediation, for at play is the sorting of places according to social relations. 4 In this chapter, I want to further extend that thesis by arguing that an elementary geodemographic logic is in fact inscribed at the very core of the computational processes of ordering subjacent to locative networking.
