ABSTRACT

This chapter describes the effects of using a form of community dance with older people with mental health needs. Some were in permanent or respite residential care, others were brought to a day centre by mini-bus from their homes. Most had dementia, a few were chronically depressed or had schizophrenia. The work described here covers a number of years, starting with some exploratory dance sessions in 1996. Most of the work took place in local authority day centres, though some involved private residential establishments.
